Two-factor authentication (2FA) strengthens account security by adding a second verification step during sign-in. In addition to your password, you’ll be asked to enter a one-time code from an authenticator app or a previously saved backup code to confirm it’s really you.
2FA can be turned on at any time if you want extra protection for your account, and it’s available for all account types, including free plans.
Note: Two-factor authentication is applied during sign-in regardless of the login method – once set up, it is required both for email and password login and for Google account sign-in.
How to enable 2FA
2FA is an optional security layer for your account that adds an extra verification step during access. It is not enabled by default, but you can switch it on whenever you want stronger protection.
To turn 2FA on:
- Sign in to your Cut0 account.
- Open the user menu in the upper-right corner and choose Profile to open the Personal Information section.
- In the 2FA dropdown, choose 2FA:Enabled.
- A setup code will be displayed as a QR image. Use your authenticator application to capture it, or add the key manually if needed. After the account is added, the app will produce a six-digit verification code – enter that code in the confirmation field.
- After you submit the code, the system checks it and, if it’s valid, takes you to the next screen automatically. There you’ll receive a list of recovery codes linked to your account. These codes can be used as a backup way to sign in if your authenticator app isn’t available – for example, if your device is reset or lost.
Use the Copy recovery codes option to save the codes, then keep them somewhere protected. It’s also a good idea to make a printed backup, so you can still get into your account if your authenticator device is unavailable.
- After you’ve saved the codes, mark the confirmation checkbox to indicate you’ve reviewed the information, then select Enable 2FA to complete the setup.
You’ll see a success notification, confirming that two-factor authentication has been activated and is now protecting your account.
The confirmation email is also sent to the registered email of the account user.
How to disable 2FA
Disabling two-factor authentication removes the added security step, leaving your account accessible with just your username and password. You can switch off 2FA at any time in your account settings, but keeping it active helps ensure stronger protection.
To turn 2FA off:
- Sign in to your Cut0 account.
- Open the user menu in the upper-right corner and choose Profile to open the Personal Information section.
- In the 2FA dropdown, choose 2FA:Disabled.
- Enter the six-digit code generated by your authenticator app to confirm your choice. Or, if the code is not available, you can use one of the backup codes saved during 2FA setup by clicking Log in with a recovery code.
2FA is now disabled and a confirmation email is sent to your account.
How login works with 2FA
Once enabled, 2FA is requested at each login to add an extra verification step and keep account access secure.
To pass 2FA verification step:
- Enter your login credentials as usual.
- When the verification prompt appears, provide the current code generated by your authenticator app.
If the code is correct, you’ll be signed in and taken straight to the Cut0 homepage. If it’s not, you’ll see a quick message and can simply try again with a new code.
In case you can’t access your code, you can sign in using one of your recovery codes instead.
How to use a recovery code
Recovery codes act as a backup sign-in method for situations where your authenticator app is unavailable and you can’t generate a one-time code. These codes are issued during 2FA setup and should be saved securely. Each code can be used once to confirm your identity and regain access.
To enter your account using a recovery code:
- Provide your email and password on the Login screen.
- When the verification step appears, choose Log in with a recovery code and enter one of the codes you saved earlier, during 2FA setup.
- Use any one of the ten backup codes generated during your 2FA setup. Each code is single-use and becomes invalid after it’s applied.
- If the code is recognized, a confirmation screen opens next. From there, you can move forward to your Analytics dashboard by clicking Continue, or proceed to turn off two-factor authentication by selecting Disable 2FA.
Also, a confirmation email is sent each time a recovery code is used, ensuring your account stays secure.
